Interlude: Letters

12/14/1348

Received reports that C is dead, along with most of the orc army. I've sent messages to the werewolf and N, warning them. This new Headmistress is more dangerous than we suspected. It was her and her cohort--a knight, a monk, an elf, and a dwarf--who killed C. I think my messenger was somewhat hysterical. He kept repeating that the forest had killed the army, over and over again. I finally killed him just to shut him up.

T has not yet returned. Keep an eye out for him, he may return to Pedrosa instead of Versailles.

The girl reports that the plague is indeed beginning to take hold in the warmer countries. We will have a true epidemic by the time the weather warms in the summer, all according to plan. I believe the elves may be restless, but it's far, far too late for them to do anything.

The Knights Templar, Knights of the Light, whatever they're calling themselves these days, are starting to be an irritation. Believe I will let N take care of the problem, however. Honestly, we disbanded them, why they continue to harass us is beyond me.

Louis says hello, by the way. I think he's looking forward to your next visit.

I think the new Headmistress may simply have gotten lucky. C is no great loss. I do wonder what happened to Strawberon; C had supposedly hired her as protection. If she's turned on us, things may get very ugly very quickly. Her only loyalty is to money, however, and I don't think even the entire Order of Epona can match what we can offer her.

T stopped by the other day. He's on his way to take care of the next item on our list; that should take care of the little problem that C's death revealed.

Tell your loathsome son hello for me. Is his wound any better these days?
